Peak District Anniversary
After a couple of weeks of weather better than any of us could imagined, it looks like normal Spring service is resumed (today’s Grindleford weather, courtesy of HeasonEvents: “Grey and dry again”). But it still means longer days, warmer temperatures and, if you’re in the area this weekend, a chance to get into the Peak District to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the National Park’s creation.
Sunday April 17th is the actual anniversary date, so why not make the most of Britain’s first National Park? The park authorities are running a series of events including a selection of guided walks, from a 15 mile ‘Diamond Dawdle’ on the Monsal Trail, to a ‘Three Cakes Challenge’; 3 miles, 3 stops and 3 cakes to sample – sound tempting? You can learn the basics of navigation or get some free cycle training too. Even in the second most visited national park in the world (after Mount Fuji), you can always find a quiet corner or unspoiled view to enjoy.
But you don’t have to go on an organised trip to enjoy the Peak District, and as RCUK readers know, the Peak District is home to arguably some of the best climbing in the world. So Vertebrate Publishing have timed their 20% off promotion to perfection! Until the end of this week, you can pick up “Peak District Climbing”, “Day Walks in the Peak District” and a host of other climbing, walking and outdoor titles with 20% off. This could be the perfect excuse to get out and start your season on rock!
