Fatal accident at Awesome Walls Climbing Centre, Stockport

Park ranger Pete Schofield, 55, who had scaled peaks all over the world, had been training for an expedition.

His friend Dave James, who worked with Pete at Northwich Woodlands, Cheshire, said: “We all thought Pete was bullet proof – he was fitter than any one of us and used to train really hard. He was hoping to go climbing in the Alps.”

At this stage it is unclear how the accident occurred. Our thoughts go out to Pete’s wife and daughter for their loss.

It's good to share!
