Climbing equipment review – Mammut Ultimate Hoody

The Mammut Ultimate Hoody (this is the mens one)

The Mammut Ultimate Hoody (this is the mens one)

The Mammut Ultimate Hoody is a Soft Shell, Gore-Windstopper.You’ll start to see a lot of Soft Shell technology, as it is starting to become really popular in the UK. Our European brethren have been fans of it for a long time.

The Ultimate Hoody is water resistant and it dries quickly, so if you do happen to get caught in a quick shower, you’ll be ok. It’s fully windproof and breathable, perfect for those blustery days on the crag (e.g. sat belaying at the top of Stanage – brrrrr). Rock climbers I have spoken to love the cut of this jacket because it’s a slim fit, which makes it easy to wear with a harness, and the hood is helmet compatible.

It’s available in both men’s and ladies’ fit. The ladies version is slimmer at the waist and slightly shorter, but both are a slim fit with a very flattering cut (well you want to look cool on your crag pictures don’t you?).

For me, what really stand outs about this jacket is the full stretch fabric with articulated elbows, which create freedom of movement and comfort. The 2 way front zip and under arm vents mean that you can cool down easily if you’re working up a sweat! The Mammut Ultimate Hoody is an extremely versatile garment, as you can wear it as a mid or outer layer.

As always, I would love to hear what you think to the product. Just drop me a comment below.

It's good to share!
